Viggo Mortenson almost lost his life on Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
There is no denying that Viggo Mortenson sustained numerous wounds during filming The Lord of the Rings, including broken toes from kicking an actual helmet. However, there was a single instance that almost took his life. The actor had to lie face down in a river while wearing bulky armor in a scene when Aragorn is shot in the back by an arrow.
Because the production had underestimated the strength of the stream that day, Mortenson ended up underwater and was carried away by the current. The actor had a really terrifying near-death experience, but he’s well now.
