Heath Ledger Got too into character for The Dark Knight
The Joker from The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger’s final role, will live on in legend. Ledger kept a Joker journal, which he shared with Empire, and spent around a month locking himself in a hotel room to get into character. The diary contained stills from the film A Clockwork Orange, joker cards, and pictures of hyenas.
Although there are reports that the role had a negative impact on his mental health, making him despondent and turning to drugs as a way to cope, his family refuted those claims. However, he did have a lack of sleep, which led him to take prescription medications and sleeping pills.
