This is a perfect example of the toxic office culture that some people claim exists these days. Although it seems like this user had a good reason for their unannounced absence from work, it would still be illegal to do so.
That’s the nature of emergencies—you can never prepare for them. It’s not like the hospital can wait to open until your boss gives the all-clear. This is not how you should handle your staff.
