Take it Literally
Fear is a great tactic to make people follow the rules you set in place. Add in a terrifying figure to represent the punishment people will receive if they fail to follow those rules, and you can get your followers to believe all kinds of things.
The devil works hard, but Christians work harder—especially since they’re the only ones to actually believe in a literal Satan as a fear-invoking figure.
