40+ People Share When Their Gut Feeling Was Actually Right

Saving Grandma

U/DargoSun92: “I asked my mother if we might accompany my grandmother to lunch when I was around ten or eleven. I insisted that I wanted to visit my grandmother and that she would want to go to lunch that day, even though she was kind of against it. My grandma and I were out at the mall after lunch when she began to slur her speech and got very confused.

She had suffered a stroke. Fortunately, my mother saw what was wrong and took her to the hospital in about twenty or thirty minutes. The stroke was stopped, according to the doctors, and she recovered essentially back to her pre-attack state. My mother informed me a few days later that I had essentially spared my grandmother’s life by making sure we had lunch together that day.”

Fatal Dissection

U/hannahatl: “Previously, I used to work in the ER. I saw a man who had moved something heavy in his office just half an hour before and was experiencing severe chest pain. Just by looking at him, I could tell he was going to die. I felt an enormous, overpowering sense of fear sweep over me. I took his EKG in the hopes that there would be a problem so we could get him a bed. His ECG was flawless.

He suffered a heart arrest on the floor of our waiting area in less than five minutes. He failed to make it after 45 minutes of running the code. His aortic dissection was significant. Hope was not very high. Though more s— has come my way since this incident about three years ago, the recollection of it is still fresh in my mind, and it stings to know that I was the last to talk with him.”

Subway Intervention

U/Alma_knack: “One day, when I was leaving a subway station in Korea where I was living and working, I noticed a man conversing with another foreign woman. She laughed politely, that look that said, “Why is this guy talking to me?” I approached her, put my arm around her, and greeted her, saying, “Hey, Sarah!” You are there! Are you prepared to leave? And simply began to move.

I rushed and turned into a coffee shop, causing the guy to chase after us. While hiding, I saw him go by, still trying to find her. After we had coffee and talked for a while, I learned that he had pursued her after she got off the train and acted more hostile over the previous ten minutes. I have no idea what could have happened, but I’m so happy I got involved!”

Thanksgiving Betrayal

U/RainAhh: “spent 3.5 years dating a man. A girl at his base wrote a Thanksgiving post about being grateful after he joined the Army. Tagged him along with an abundance of other users. I often bugged him about her, but he said that she was just a buddy.

… until five months later, when he sent me a meme and claimed to have knocked her up. By the time he got her pregnant, he had been unfaithful to me for nine months. Acknowledged that. My intuition was, therefore, spot on. She had referenced a boyfriend in a Facebook post, something my (ex)bf had never made before. This occurred in 2014/2015.”

Vanishing Threat

U/RickOShea: “I was playing on my front lawn in the 1980s when this van drew up on the street, and the sliding door opened. I realized something wasn’t right when this guy, who looked in his late teens, aggressively asked me to come to the van. My parents freaked out and went outside, but they had already left by the time I got there.

I had no concept of what an abduction was at the time, and stranger danger didn’t exist, but when I think back on it, I realize that day, if I had gone over to the van, my life might have ended. I used to worry if they could get a child inside their vehicle after that day.”

Going the Distance

U/jvac23: “I was going to visit my now-wife, and we did the long-distance thing back in college. I would leave Chicagoland early on Friday and arrive there early in the afternoon. I feel like I should leave Thursday night since I’m closing my store. So I gave up that evening and said, “F it.”

On Friday, just after lunch, tornado sirens sound. It goes unnoticed until Sunday when I go through a town approximately thirty minutes north of her on my way home. It had been lit by the tornado. I realized quickly that I would have been in the middle of a tornado if I had left at my usual time.”

Heartbeat Guardian

U/micekins: “When my father collapsed in an airport restroom. I advised him to buy an AED since they were only $1.00 at Sam’s Club in 2007.

I was correct when I assumed it was an arrhythmia. He might have survived if he had his AED, as he passed away a month later. An arrhythmia happened.”

Heartbreak Wilderness

U/scipio0421: “I trusted the girl I was dating a few years ago, so I didn’t worry when she spent a few weeks camping with “a friend.” However, while she was away, I began to have a gut sense that she was cheating on me.

She contacted me just before her scheduled return to town, and she called me to dump me. (Advantage: she didn’t even bother to return to town after my recent brain surgery.) Edit, “dumped me for him.””

Sorrow’s Prewarning

U/Trainwreck0829: “I was playing on YouTube while staying over at a friend’s house in high school, around thirty minutes away, when I suddenly experienced a horrible, sickening feeling and an unexplained sense of sadness.

After I mentioned it to my friends, they attempted to comfort me. A few minutes later, her mother enters the room and informs me that my father had called with terrible news—our favorite dog had escaped the fence, run into the street, and been struck and killed by a mail truck.”

Foreseen Turmoil

U/papajohnny13: “The last time I got a job offer. Had it at my last interview with my potential employer. Even though everything about that position seemed incredible, something inside me told me to g—.

To be fair, it was for the first few days, but then I saw how disorganized everything was, and I lost interest in working in a toxic workplace where my boss’s incompetence was fueling things. Eventually I gave up after two months.”

Instinctive Escape

U/throwmeinthecanal: “I was in the eastern Quebec woods with my mother. Just across the hill, perhaps fifty meters distant, I heard something snap off a fairly large branch. I told her that I thought it looked like a bear, therefore we had to leave immediately.

She informs me that the area has been bear-free for 20 years. We head back home after she listens to me despite the mountain. The following day, a car on the opposite side of the mountain struck a bear.”

Tragic Waters

U/Amigone2515: “We spent a week at an outdoor school camp when I was thirteen. There was an overnight canoe expedition during the week. I got a terrible sense the morning before the trip that things weren’t going to go well and that we should stay back, but I disregarded it because, at thirteen, I was following orders. I went on the trip with my best buddy.

In summary, we went under when our boat encountered a log jam; while I survived, my closest friend did not. That day, she passed away on the logs.”

Ominous Journey

U/my1973vw: “fifteen years ago. My spouse and I were heading out of the house to make a multi-hour trek to visit her brother. We exchanged glances and acknowledged that something didn’t feel quite right. Nothing special; it just happened. Strange, huh?

After two and a half hours, as we were traveling east on I-80 at about seventy-five mph, a tire and wheel came off right in the middle of our brand-new car’s hood. Indeed, it was our journey.”

Lurker Alert

“My closest friend asked me to a lavish dinner party at her home. Something didn’t feel right as I got there. There was something uneasy about the heavy air that enveloped me. I followed my instinct and joined in the festivities. Even though the evening was full of fine dining and fun, I couldn’t help but feel that something was off. A strange man was hiding in the corner, and I spotted him chatting with the visitors. With a gloomy look, he observed us with sharp eyes.

I was so interested that I went up to talk to him. Despite his initial refusal to respond, I started a conversation with him and managed to convince him to open up. He relaxed after a bit, and we had a smooth talk. After thirty minutes, he told me he had to go and made his way to the door. But before he could open it, his coat fluttered around him, and I caught an overview of a massive weapon blazing in his back pocket. We looked at each other again, and he smiled at me before closing the door. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had averted a potentially disastrous situation.”

First Date

“As I entered the luxurious restaurant for my blind date, I had an odd feeling in the pit of my stomach. And there she was, all beauty with a tinge of mischievousness in her gaze. After saying hello to each other, we took a seat at our table. Her: So tell me, what is your line of work? Me: Well, before I came, I did some research on you because I’m a private investigator. I discovered you have a 9-month-old child who is still in Detroit, where you are originally from. How did your child fare?

Her: I needed to leave right away. My former partner’s family had dubious gang affiliations. I had no choice but to leave since he wouldn’t allow me to take our child out of the state.”

Premonition Echo

U/IamBeyonceAlwayz: “When I watched the news in seventh grade, it mentioned that a delivery truck had collided with a pedestrian, who fortunately survived. They said nothing to identify the person, but I was positive it was my grandfather who had been involved in the collision.

I felt sick after that and was unable to get rid of the feeling. As it happened, it was. That confident feeling in my gut hasn’t returned since.”

Collision Course

U/Isotheis: “I remember having a severe panic attack one day about attending college. I’m not sure why; nothing significant occurred. However, it was accurate; just before the station, the bus collided with another vehicle. Unfortunately, Mother had made me go nonetheless.

I bumped into my head on the bus’ windshield and arrived at my statistics class with blood all over my hair and some severely dirty fragments of glass. I didn’t find out until my statistics teacher, who was sitting in first rank and couldn’t see very well from a distance, called the university’s medical team.”

Canine Intuition

U/Shoptoof: “My first year of college and the year I got my first dog that I didn’t have from birth. She would be my go-to excuse all the time. I apologize; I must break my dog. Yeah, today is her vet appointment. It was the day before a big test, and I was in class. Though I knew I had to stay for the test, I wouldn’t usually want to. However, I felt compelled to return home.

I stayed until the very last lesson ended, at which point I hurried to my car. Someone broke into my house. In addition to having my dog’s kennel flipped and hurled across the room, valuables were taken. I should have gone home, but police who later found those responsible said they were very dangerous and lucky my dog wasn’t further harmed.”

Name Game

“that I didn’t really care for the girl my spouse was speaking to. He knew it annoyed me, but I would never ask him to stop talking to someone. He claimed not to be speaking with her.

To cut a long tale short, he changed her name on his phone and pulled it out during a fight to quote her. Yes, I was aware of that.”

Hide-and-Seek

U/rhyza99: “1995 was the year. It was the middle of summer, around 2:00 am, and I was eighteen, still living with my parents. I was walking home from a friend’s house. Normally, not much traffic passes between our homes, but that evening, as I was about halfway home, a pickup truck with two males in the cab and two in the bed passed past.

As I witnessed, the truck rounded a corner and went over some hedges. I watched the truck turn the corner and slowly make its way back down the street. One of the guys said, “Where did he go?” as it reached where I was hiding. They drove away, and I never saw them again. I’m sure they would have jumped me if they had found me.”

Dodging Danger

U/gracious-bodacious: “I quickly visited Home Depot to get something. I spot a cool guy leaning against a tree on one side of my car while I’m walking to my car. Another suspicious guy is on the other side of my car, extending his arm out the window. They both turned to stare at me as I walked out.

My heart stopped. My thoughts knew right away to turn around and enter. I trembled as I stood before the store, trying to gather the strength to ask a worker to lead me to my car. The man by the tree returned to my car and got in the driver’s side when he observed me leaving with an employee.”

Life’s Vital Whispers

U/verpin_zal: “As I breathed in, I felt sorrow in my lungs. Since I’ve never been stabbed, I can’t speak to how it feels, but the agony ought to have been at least as great. It happened years ago. The pain eased after using some hot water in the shower.

My then-girlfriend, my wife, insisted on seeing the ER. I demanded hot water. She said, “I think we should see a doctor.” My condition was determined to be a double pulmonary embolism. “One or two more hours, and you were gone,” the doctor stated. I do, therefore, owe my wife one.”

Red Light Reflex

U/Cutter9792: “Pittsburgh driving. At a red light, I halt. On my left is a hill, while on my right is a downward. Visibility to the left is poor. Though my head tells me to wait a moment, the light turns green. Though it seems a little strange, I haven’t gone yet.

Moments afterward, a huge F-350 in navy blue rushes through the intersection on my left, crossing the red light at around 45 degrees before going down the hill. Three tons of Ford trucks would have demolished me if I had left. Rather, I relied on my spider sense.”

Dangerous Game

“Not me, but my spouse. A colleague of mine used to visit and play Xbox in addition to smoking. I knew the guy was a little strange, but I liked him. He told some false fibers in the past, but everyone knew they were b——-. My wife, who was merely my girlfriend then, always felt uneasy around him. She claimed he gave her such a hateful, angry face, but he never did anything specifically to make her feel uneasy.

I eventually stopped going out with the friend because he no longer frequently visited the city for work. Fast forward a few years, and another mutual friend calls me to say the Xbox friend was killed by police, unfortunately only after he had already killed his neighbor and his wife. Crazy.”

Campfire Creep

“My family and I went camping with a friend. An adorable elderly man was camping by himself. We spoke for a while after he invited us to his campfire. Then he opened his camper to my friend and me. At the time, we were approximately 12 or 13 years old.

I started shaking violently and told her no, but she insisted on going inside. I refused to go until she joined me. Though I can’t think they were nice in retrospect, I have no proof that he had evil intentions.”

Eerie Farewell

U/CasualAwful: “I had a friend in high school who was in a terrible accident. He was in the intensive care unit, undergoing emergency surgery. A few days have passed since the incident. A friend of mine who recently saw him in the intensive care unit called me. He said that they are hopeful, although he is still ventilated and growing. That evening, I’m going to be playing video games. My entire body seems to shudder’ out of nowhere. I couldn’t quite put it into words, but I felt off. Everywhere, I set down the controller and sat there in disbelief. I am aware of my friend’s absence. It’s beyond me to explain, but I know.

As predicted, we received word that he had departed within the hour. My logical mind recognizes that this is a coincidence. This was an incident I would have forgotten if my friend hadn’t passed away. That’s the closest I’ve ever felt to anything otherworldly, though, guy.”

Serving Up Trouble

“Then, at the age of fifteen, this beautiful older waiter requested my phone number. I was delighted because it was the first time it had ever happened to me. We spoke on the phone a few times, but his condition for seeing me again was that he could only come to my place while nobody else was around.

When I eventually made my way back up to the restaurant to meet him once again, I experienced another uncontrollable shaking episode. So awful that I simply left. It turned out he was working as a waiter in my state after leaving his own state because of legal problems.”

Under Surveillance

U/hineyhoo: “Last night, I went to Target at around 8 pm. I saw this woman watching me park while she was standing behind my car. She was standing next to the car next to mine when I got out, staring at me the whole time while she texted someone while leaning against another car.

She just made me feel uneasy; I couldn’t shake it. When my friend—who was with me—went back to the car to retrieve her left wallet, the woman was still there and was snapping pictures of our vehicle. It was strange. I eventually gave up on everything I was buying, asked security to lead the way to our car, and informed them about the woman who was now missing from sight.”

Preserving the Past

U/Affectionate-Rush893: “I remember completing my first complete purge of my bedroom as a child, getting rid of toys, old clothes, and other stuff. I discovered an old photo cut out of my parent’s hometown newspaper while organizing my closet. It showed Lyndon Johnson visiting the community. There were some locals in the backdrop of the photo, which was taken outside.

I started to toss the image away, but then I had a strong urge not to, so I put it aside instead. I later showed my mother and inquired about it. It turned out that my grandfather was one of the people in the backdrop of the photo. At twelve, he passed away. We had very few pictures of him, including that one. Until now, I had never seen a picture of him. I felt so relieved that I had kept the clipping.”

Stormy Sleepover

U/Wicketdevo: “It was the first day of summer camp. I felt uneasy as soon as I got out of the car, and my stomach started to growl. I was informed that, in the warmest and most humid month in recent memory, I would be sharing a tent with roughly fourteen other boys my age. I then informed my father, who was with me, that I had to go home because I was having a stomachache.

After packing, we headed out. That night, there was a strong storm that may have included tornadoes, but when it passed, the structures and cabins remained intact, and items like the tent I would have fallen asleep in were no longer even on the campgrounds.”

Evil Step Mother

U/Drakmanka: “The woman who ended up becoming the stepmother of my ex-best pal. As soon as I met her, warning signs telling me to stay away from her went out in my thoughts. Since my friend’s father dated her for a year and isn’t a jerk, I chose to ignore them. My senses were spot on. That woman was tame compared to Cinderella’s stepmother.

She would yell at my friend and hurl things at my friend’s dad. Even though there was no way for her to prove it, she blamed everything on my friend. When my friend was actually doing her homework, she attempted to get the wifi turned off so that my friend “would stop wasting her time playing on her computer all day.”My friend severed their friendship with me and all of our shared friends because of her, I’m pretty sure. Anything and everything that brought that monster back to her mind had to go.”

Watch Your Step

U/Dwizzlehart: “I was running an auto parts store in 2018. Our 74-year-old delivery man was putting away goods and was in good health. I recalled that the same delivery driver had complained earlier that morning about feeling lightheaded (I believe he was experiencing problems with his blood sugar). I knew he was the only one putting the refill away because our top shelves were 12 feet high.

After leaving my workstation, I went around to the rear, where I could hear him using the stepladder. He was attempting to place a radiator on the top shelf when I rounded the corner, but he lost his hold on it and tumbled off. I was able to break his fall by catching him. A robust steel oil collection tank was directly in his direction of descent, where his head would have struck. The following day, his shoulders and back aches still, but he was still alive.“

Intuition at Play

U/Rcrowley32: “My great aunt Eleanor was watching my brother and me when I was around three years old. She was very elderly and generally unaware of what was happening. She chose to go on a walk with my younger sister and me. I was merely toddling along behind my sister in the stroller when I slid farther back than my parents would have allowed.

When I went outside (about two homes down), two males in their twenties approached me holding hammers and asked if I “wanted to help them build some shelves.” I became horribly terrified for no apparent cause. And I dashed to catch Eleanor up. This gave me nightmares for years, and I still remember it clearly. After that, this neighbour moved into his parents’ backyard and bought an old school bus. I think Eleanor would have been happy to leave me with them. That’s still on my mind.”

Cutting it Close

U/Im-addicted-to-memes: “I was carrying the half of a little tree that I was cutting down while I cleared brush away from my shed. I considered raising my hand a little higher before making the last swing. When I didn’t, and I swung, the machete struck my finger instead of going through the branch.

I didn’t chop off my finger because my fingers were curled around the branch, and the machete struck at an angle, but it cut deep enough to strike an artery, leaving my finger gushing blood. Thirteen stitches were required in total. That was a fun day.”
