Fatal Dissection
U/hannahatl: “Previously, I used to work in the ER. I saw a man who had moved something heavy in his office just half an hour before and was experiencing severe chest pain. Just by looking at him, I could tell he was going to die. I felt an enormous, overpowering sense of fear sweep over me. I took his EKG in the hopes that there would be a problem so we could get him a bed. His ECG was flawless.
He suffered a heart arrest on the floor of our waiting area in less than five minutes. He failed to make it after 45 minutes of running the code. His aortic dissection was significant. Hope was not very high. Though more s— has come my way since this incident about three years ago, the recollection of it is still fresh in my mind, and it stings to know that I was the last to talk with him.”
