Raw Cabbage: Cats and Dogs
We generally shouldn’t share our favorite foods and snacks with our pets. Things that seem perfectly healthy, like raw cabbage, may seem harmless for humans and animals alike, but the truth isn’t so simple. While cooked cabbage is safe for dogs and cats to eat, large amounts of raw cabbage can be harmful to pets.
Raw cabbage contains thiocyanate, large amounts of which can lead to hyperthyroidism. This metabolic disorder causes symptoms like weight loss, increased drinking and urination, and diarrhea. Fortunately, you can avoid this by simply boiling the cabbage and keeping their consumption limited to small amounts.
