Walking into a supermarket feels like walking into an alternative universe in which humanity has embraced total chaos and extremely questionable fashion sense. Most people would rather just pay extra elsewhere than dealing with it.
Big Supermarkets may be some of the weirdest places on Earth… but you can still walk away with a hilarious story to tell! Take a look at these photos that perfectly capture the spirit of this strange store, and even stranger shoppers who feel right at home between its walls.
Going Out
For some people, shopping at the supermarket is the only chance they get to strut their stuff. Sure, she may be shopping for baby diapers, but she will do it looking fierce.
We do wonder, though – if this is how she dresses when she’s out getting baby supplies – what does she look like when she wants to dress up for a real event? It’s pretty difficult to imagine, if we’re being honest.
Security vs. Insecurity
Whether it’s a mall or the pharmacy, it’s pretty normal to see security walking around the store–especially a big supermarket like this one. But how often do you see someone standing next to the security guard wearing a juxtaposing “SECURITY” sweatshirt?
This perfectly timed photo and play on the words “security” and “insecurity” is just pure gold! What can we say? This is an absolutely hilarious twist of fate, and we love whoever was able to capture this hysterical moment!
Couple Goals
Being weird isn’t so bad if you have someone special in your life to match your level of weirdness. Good thing these two found each other since they look perfect together – and their bathrobes do as well.
By this point, you’ve probably figured out shoppers don’t really care about looking good. This list already featured several wacky fashion choices that are much worse than these matching bathrobes. We’ll let this one slide because they look adorable, and we’re pretty sure they were just in a rush.
Conga Line
If you think doing the Conga line is lame, these shoppers probably wouldn’t agree. They’re such huge fans of this novelty dance that they like to practice whenever possible – even when they’re sitting down and driving around.
Their dedication is admirable, but it would be better for everyone involved if they took their business elsewhere. People using electric shopping carts usually get in other people’s way. We can deal with one or two, but four at once is way too much.
What Are Those?
Some fashion items are so tacky, unnecessary, and useless that you feel like your eyes are bleeding after seeing them. High heel sneakers are one of the best examples.
We’re not sure who came up with them and why that person thought they’re a good idea, but they deserve to be sued for emotional distress by the whole planet. Let’s hope this idiotic trend is never coming back, because it makes no sense whatsoever. Sneakers are supposed to be comfortable, and this model completely defeats the purpose.
Yoga in Aisle Three
If you have friends that do yoga, you already know the drill; they’ll strike a pose whenever – and wherever – they get the chance, and supermarkets are no exception!
This photo started a little trend of yoga practicers taking photos of themselves in various yoga positions at the supermarket – and we love it! People transforming the supermarket aisles into little havens of meditation and wellness are almost literal rays of sunshine, and we wish we’d see more people doing this kind of thing!
Romantic Ride
We’re sick of seeing people constantly misusing electric shopping carts at supermarkets, but these two are the only exception. They obviously couldn’t stand the thought of spending a single second apart!
The only thing that was missing to make this moment even more perfect were a couple of cans tied to a string dangling from the back. They probably didn’t want to bring too much attention to themselves, but the damage has already been done. Their romantic ride has already been captured for the whole world to see.
Making Headlines
So many strange things happen inside this store that some of it is bound to make the news.
This strange story made the headlines back in 2012, after an unidentified woman had to be rescued from a restroom after being super-glued to a toilet seat. To make the whole thing worse, she was neither the first nor the last victim of this diabolical prank. We really don’t know why anyone would think this could lead to a hilarious outcome, but the world is a strange place.
Chicken Run
You know that feeling when you want to buy a nice chicken for your Sunday dinner, but the store only has live ones? This guy certainly does and something tells us he’s hating every second of it.
It’s just one of those moments when you wish you could simply go to KFC instead. Sure thing, freshly cooked meals are nice, but sometimes you just want something tasty and quick that won’t make you look like a total weirdo at your local store.
Doritos to the Rescue
Everyone loves Doritos because they’re pretty versatile. You can eat them straight from the bag or add a dipping sauce to the mix. You can get creative and add them to your burgers, meatballs and salads.
In addition, there are many creative ways to use your bag of Doritos once there’s nothing left inside. Why throw it away when you can use it to fix your trunk instead of spending hundreds of bucks on a mechanic.
Wienermobile
We can’t really blame this one on the store, but it was spotted in front of their store, so it made the cut.
This strange vehicle shaped like a hot dog is known by the name Wienermobile. These cars have been used to advertise Oscar Mayer products since the ‘30s. Despite its weird shape, this vehicle proved to be a pretty popular promotional tool. Several models were produced and toured around the US over the years, bringing joy to everyone who loves hot dogs.
Curious Raccoon
We’re totally ok with pet-friendly stores, but you have to draw a line somewhere. We can do with dogs, we can do with cats and we can even do with ducks, but letting a raccoon roam around like he owes the place is way too much.
This girl seems pretty comfortable with the animal sitting on her shoulder, but we can hardly believe it’s actually her pet. Why would anyone in their right mind put themselves through that kind of torture?
Pack It In
There are so many things at supermarkets that make us do a double take, but nothing has caused us to whip our heads around quite like this.
Having your stomach hang out of your shirt requires a lot of confidence, and honestly, we’re here for it. Still, we can’t help but stare—especially when we realize it’s actually a fanny pack that looks a lot like a belly!
The Supermarket Effect
Let’s face it. Not everyone can be at their best when they go to big stores. Whether it’s your super family sized ten pack of giant Doritos that tragically run out, or your pantry that is sadly missing a single onion, you’ll probably end up going to the supermarket at a strange hour, wearing strange clothes and not being at your absolute best.
The glaring, cold fluorescent lights don’t do much to help you look better, either. This photo clearly demonstrates, no one is safe from it.
Wild Wild West
We’ve already seen dozens of epic fails on this list, but this one is easily the winner. It’s so bad it’s good and we have so many questions that need to be answered, ASAP.
When did this guy decide his dog would look good in a cowboy hat? Where did he get one (since we need it right now!)? And why isn’t the cashier next to him freaking out as much as we are? It’s an adorable puppy in a tiny cowboy hat, show some respect!
Super Cute Shopping Cart Chaos
Let’s be real. As kids, we all loved racing against, pushing around, or getting pushed by our siblings in the shopping cart, creating all sorts of funny chaos around the parking lot and store. That was probably the most fun part about going to the store with our parents anyway. Right? So, how adorable is it to see this young-at-heart elderly couple doing the same nostalgic act?
Seriously, we can’t get enough of this precious photograph. It just warms up our hearts to see them enjoying the shopping cart and giggle away!
Amish Gamer
This photo was posted by a Reddit user and followed by a funny caption – “Just walking through the store when I see an Amish guy playing video games. He saw me take the picture and we both had a little laugh.”
The Amish are known for their avoidance of modern technology, and having fun by playing video games is generally frowned upon. No wonder this poor guy had to do go to this store, but the Reddit user probably shouldn’t have snapped this photo since he could get in trouble if members of his community found out.
The “Clean” Look
Supermarkets, it seems, is the place people go when they want to try out new looks. How else can you begin trying to explain even half of these photos?
This girl, it seems, is trying to start a new look: the towel wrap. You might be laughing now, but people laughed when torn jeans were just starting to be a thing. You just wait and see – a year from now, people will be wrapping designer towels around their heads in red carpet events!
Good Boy
Some shoppers feel it’s better to take their pets inside, because leaving them locked in a car feels like a torture. We can’t really blame this guy, since he really thought things through.
His dog is not standing in anyone’s way, and we’re pretty sure you could stumble upon a couple of kids who are making way more noise in this store. We’re really hoping this officer is just admiring this super-cool dog, and not trying to kick it out.
Care Bear
Remember that photo of a guy dressed as Eeyore? Turns out his wife was really wearing a Winnie-the-Pooh costume, but she wasn’t waiting in the car after all.
It’s also possible this is a completely different person, since this adorable yellow bear happens to be pretty popular with people of all ages. We don’t even judge her for wearing this Winnie-the-Pooh onesie, since it’s pretty cute, but we’re a bit worried because it seems she’s not wearing any shoes. Let’s hope she’s there to buy a pair.
Strange Mix
In a store as big as a supermarket, you can buy pretty much anything you want. That’s why it’s not unusual to come across a cart filled with dozens of things that don’t go together.
When someone’s cart is completely full, you don’t get to notice how funny it is to have all that stuff in the same place. When it’s just two items… Well, it’s a completely different story. No matter how hilarious the content of his cart may seem, that bright orange hamlet is still our favorite part of this pic.
Strange Mix
Cat lovers don’t necessarily hate dogs, and this photo is here to remind us you can love both at the same time. This girl obviously likes Hello Kitty (probably a little way too much) but that doesn’t stop her from spoiling her adorable puppy.
It’s all fun and games until you remember this photo wasn’t taken at her living room, but inside her local supermarket. We can do with people walking their pets, but this dreadful Hello Kitty pyjama has to go away ASAP.
Breaking Out in Dance
We know people like to rag on big chain stores and the people who shop there, but there can also be moments of true beauty there, too.
This woman – Morgan Dawson, who is a social media influencer – for instance, went in to buy some groceries, and, like many of us, put her earbuds in. She was so into the music, though, that as she picked up some strawberries, she couldn’t help herself and burst out dancing. People photographed her because it was impossible to ignore – and she seemed to brighten everyone’s day in the process.
Save Me, Please
Supermarkets sometimes sell a bunch of pretty dangerous items, but you don’t expect to find them in the kitchenware section. This grandma came to the realization she has made some enemies out there after coming across this Nana Slicer.
Judging by the photo on the package, this funny item wasn’t really invented to cause any harm to innocent grandmas. The graphic designers were just too lazy to put the word “banana” on the cover as typing two extra letters apparently takes hours and doesn’t look cool.
Flamin’ Hot Marketing Skills
It’s not every day that you have people advertising products in the store. And it looks like the famous Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack decided to take things up a notch with their marketing game in the supermarket.
Considering that Cheetos is quite a big company, we’re a bit thrown off by the fact that the costume if far from a high-standard issue one. But regardless of that, we just can’t get over how funny and adorable this store employee looks though!
Warming Up
They say stretching is extremely important, and this lady really mastered the craft. She’s probably hitting the gym after her shopping spree and she’s just warming up for her fitness routine.
We’re guessing she’s short on time and didn’t want to waste any stretching at the gym. Waiting in line at the supermarket is pointless and boring anyway, so why not use it to do something you’re supposed to do later on? It’s not a sight we’d like to see, but her time management skills are truly admirable.
A la Cart
We’ve heard of kids getting stuck in a fence or some random contraption it seemed impossible to get into in the first place, but this is one situation we’ve never seen before.
How on earth did this man get himself stuck inside a shopping cart, and why are the supermarket workers simply posing beside him? This is one uncomfortable situation all around.
How Much Was the Ring?
To many people, Supermarkets are a special place. It’s so much more than just a giant store – and so, it makes sense that to some, proposing at the store’s clothing clearance area is the height of romance.
We don’t know these people, and we don’t know their story. Who are we to judge? We just have to wonder – did he buy the ring at a supermarket as well? Or is he just proposing there?
Nice Tail
This is one of those situations where you’re trying really hard to figure out the meaning behind a certain “fashion item”, but you’re coming up empty. It’s totally useless, and we’re not 100% sure this guy even knows it’s there.
It’s like when someone puts a sticker on your back, and you walk around all day long without realizing everyone is giggling when they see you. This one is much harder to miss than a tiny sticker, but we still can’t think of a reason to wear it on purpose.
Wild Ride
You don’t even have to walk inside a supermarket to start seeing strange things. The parking lot is also filled with dozens of glorious disasters, including this strange hybrid vehicle.
We don’t even know if you can actually buy these, and ordering a custom-made model would make the whole situation even worse. Plus, we’re not really sure if it makes sense driving this once it starts raining and snowing outside, especially with those seats. Gosh, just get a car like a normal person!
Sleeping Beauty
Shopping can get really exhausting, especially when you find yourself stuck in a huge store surrounded by a bunch of strange people. This girl decided to escape the harsh reality for a bit by taking a power nap inside her shopping cart.
It’s really hard to judge her, since some shoppers do much worse. At least she didn’t lay down in one of the beds displayed in the home section like other people do. And nope – we’re not even joking this time around.
A Strong Look
Say what you will about this young lady, but she has a strong look going for her. The all denim, patchy outfit, the Cheeto orange hair – her taste may be strange, but she has a very cohesive thing going. And honestly, not many people could pull this off, and she is actually doing a pretty good job.
We like the Ruffles that kind of balance out the orange look here, too. This gal is so cool we’re actually thinking about dying our own hair orange now, too.
Pretty in Pink
Bright hair colors are all the rage right now, but it’s not easy to recreate Kylie Jenner’s Coachella look when you don’t have a team of professionals at your disposal. A cheap wig isn’t enough to get the job done – but sometimes, it’s the best you can afford.
We won’t even bother discussing the rest of this outfit, but let’s just say we’re grateful the world embraced high waisted jeans. Let’s hope it stays that way until the end of eternity.
A Wild Goose Chase
From llamas to hedgehogs, you thought you’ve seen it all when it comes to bringing unexpected animals to the store. And even though your everyday goose might not seem that exotic, it’s not very often that you see one on a leash helping mama shop around! Right?
Especially since they have a tendency to be a little wild, we just hope that the little guy was as calm throughout the whole trip around the store as he is in this picture!
Protect Yourself
This girl isn’t your regular weirdo – she knows what she’s getting into. She doesn’t like it one bit and she doesn’t intend to stick around for too long. She’s a methodical shopper who came prepared, made the list, and memorized all the aisles.
Wearing a gas mask may seem too excessive, but she’s doing that one for a reason. It hasn’t been scientifically proven yet, but she’s heard weirdness is contagious. Unfortunately, something tells us she’s already been infected with the virus.
Time For Easter
We’ve already learned Santa Clause likes shopping at supermarkets, and it turns out the Easter Bunny is also a big fan. After hearing this store has any Christmas present you can think of, the Bunny decided to check it out just in time for Easter.
We’re pretty sure he wasn’t disappointed, but we’re not sure how the kids felt after seeing him there. Way to ruin the magic of Easter! What’s next? The tooth fairy is getting her money from a cash register?
A Llama Waiting in Line
We know that some people bring their dogs around when they’re out and about doing their weekly shopping at the grocery store. In fact, having dogs around is something that’s become a big part of many city’s cultures nowadays. But have you ever seen someone bring in an exotic animal like an alpaca or llama?
This is definitely a first for us, and it’s absolutely hilarious! In fact, it almost looks like this furry friend is waiting in line to purchase something all on his own.
A Powdered Apology
Whoops! Clean up on aisle nine! For anyone that’s super clumsy, then you know exactly how risky it can be to be shopping around things that can break. Whether it’s glass or just a bag of powder, even at the supermarket, there’s danger at every corner.
And if you ever do break something, then you’re sort of left there in a moment of awkwardness wondering what to do. Do you walk away and pretend like nothing happened? Do you try to find a store employee? Do you pick up the damaged goods and purchase it anyway? It looks like this customer chose to walk away but left the employees a little notice of apology. How sweet!
Dog Walker
By this point you’ve probably noticed that shoppers never shy away from brining their pets inside. We’re not even bitter about it since we’ve got several adorable pics thanks to this force of habit.
The only thing confusing about this one is the dog who climbed on top of their owner. Our best guess is the puppy got too tired of walking and the guy in the red shirt wanted to give it some time to relax. The floor probably just wasn’t comfortable enough.
GLOW Audition
Cast of Netflix series GLOW is already filled with pretty colorful characters, so what’s one more? Too bad they weren’t holding auditions at this store – this lady would’ve immediately made the cut.
We’re not sure if she can act, but it doesn’t even matter if she’s a good wrestler. She’s going to be wearing the mask the whole time anyway, and the costume department won’t have to go an extra mile thinking of a quirky outfit she could wear. She already came up with one all by herself!
Crazy For “Elf”
We don’t know who this lady is or where she’s from, but there’s one thing we know for sure – Home Alone isn’t her favorite Christmas movie. She’s crazy for Elf, and if they ever make a gender-swapped version we wouldn’t mind seeing her take over from Will Ferrell.
Her costume is spot-on and we’re pretty sure she already knows each and every line from this holiday classic. Hanging out at a store dressed as Buddy may seem over the top, but what a better way to promote this underrated masterpiece?
