House in Disrepair
Darius followed Tommy until he turned into a worn-down, old house. The paint was chipped and many windows were broken. It didn’t look safe to live in, but the young boy quickly walked up the path and unlocked the door. Checking over his shoulder, he went into the house, shutting the door loudly. All the window covers were closed.
Darius heard the cry of a baby. That was it—he had to go in and ensure there was an adult for these kids. But what he stumbled upon inside sent chills down his spine.
Going In
Darius stepped up the walkway before knocking. No answer. He tried again, following a short pause. Hearing quick footsteps, Tommy partially opened the door. He asked in a whisper, “Why are you here?”
“Hello, Tommy. Can I come in? Just for a quick look,” Officer Darius replied. Tommy, hesitant, opened the door just enough for Darius to enter. His massive eyes glistened with fear on his light-coloured face. Darius smiled to reassure him. But his instincts sensed danger.
