New CEO
The CEO, the offspring of the past CEO who hired Alex, announced one day he was leaving. The firm swiftly assigned a new CEO. There was strong hope that this new leader could introduce big changes and help the firm keep up with current trends.
This new boss came from a tech company in Silicon Valley. He didn’t go for usual business suits but wore pricey sports clothes and even had a small basketball hoop in his workspace. He liked talking about “synergy” and “blue sky thinking” and favored voicemail over email. Alex found this style puzzling. He was unsure about what the future had in store.
Meeting With HR
The new CEO stepped in. Soon after, HR gave Alex a shout. They wanted to chat. This was new ground for him. What was it about? Could someone have complained? He got along well with his team; this seemed doubtful.
A brief unease squeezed Alex as he headed to meet with the fresh HR boss. He wasn’t optimistic about a pay rise. As things played out, his hunch was spot on.
