Making a Choice
“Jasmine, where do you want to live?” the judge asked. She looked up, breathed deep, and said, “Daddy.” Silent filled the room. After her words, Roger reacted – fist raised, a winning smile from his lawyer. They won.
Roger was free from Janet’s charges, and Jasmine would live with him.
Janet’s Despair
Janet was stunned, feeling like there was no breath left in her. She flopped into her chair, hurt. Roger had hurt her before, but now it was worse. The idea of losing Jasmine, her daughter and joy, was hard to believe. She knew she wasn’t the perfect mom, yet she tried hard to give Jasmine a good life. Roger’s actions puzzled Janet.
She didn’t think he really cared about Jasmine, only using her to hurt Janet. Confidence in Roger was shattered. She just couldn’t understand how things got this bad.
