He Seemed Different
Roger was a true gentleman. He was very polite, and this made Janet feel valued. They chatted until her shift ended. Then, Roger asked for Janet’s number. Janet felt thrilled. They spent a lot of time together, and Roger soon moved in with Janet, Jasmine, and Rover.
At first, all was good. Jasmine liked her new stepdad. Janet was happy. But Roger had a secret.
Hiding the Truth
Janet didn’t know about Roger’s hidden problem. He was very good at keeping it a secret. He was using the same substance that caused the death of Jasmine’s biological father and the one that Janet had once struggled with. Janet thought she was doing better until she was again trapped by this dangerous substance.
But Roger was different from her first husband because he had a quick temper. If he couldn’t get his fix, he’d get mad at anyone near him. Janet was often his target.
