It may surprise you to learn that, despite the fact that the Netherlands is often referred to as “Holland,” the two regions have different names—both of which are home to Amsterdam, the country’s most well-known city and capital. Allow us to clarify.
Located in the northwest of Europe lies a country called the Netherlands. Holland is made up of 12 provinces, North and South Holland being the two that comprise the entire country. North Holland is the location of Amsterdam.
