Sharp Turn Ahead
As the principal river of West Africa and the third largest river in Africa, the Niger River is widely recognized. While it is longer than the Nile and Congo rivers, its most distinctive feature is its shape, which confounds geographers and topographers alike.
Given its boomerang-like shape, it is likely the result of the union of two prehistoric rivers into a single, lengthy river with a dramatic bend in the middle.
