New School Rules
Carl worked with the principal to ensure all teachers learned about hair equality and discrimination. She even came in and gave a speech at a school assembly, telling the kids about her story, salon, and the cultural significance of her hair.
Sarah was so proud to see her dad up there. He was making sure no student in school ever had to go through what he went through. At least something positive had come out of the experience.
Fresh Start
As time went on, Sarah’s confidence started to come back. Her new hairstyle gave her freedom, a new beginning that allowed her to redefine herself on her own terms.
He no longer felt that his hair defined him but that his strength and resilience defined him. The support of her father, the kindness of her friends and peers, and the adjustments in school helped her heal.
