Elvis and Thompson loved one another, but they never tied the knot. Elvis had even given her a pre-engagement ring the first Christmas they spent together, and they had talked about it. But Linda Thompson’s greatest want was a child, and she had no desire to bring a child into the hectic environment of constant concerts, prescription drugs, and public attention. Thompson came to the realization she desired a typical existence.
