The Women of the WNBA On and Off the Court

Lexie Brown

A healthy lifestyle and physical conditioning are highly valued by WNBA players. However, guard Lexie Brown of the Chicago Sky actually enjoys it, although the most of them do it out of necessity. It’s likely that she works out while she’s not on the court because she is well-known for loving the gym.

In order to spread her love of fitness to others, Brown is presently working for her personal trainer license.

Kayla McBride

One of those basketball players who plays because it makes her happy is Kayla McBride. She even acknowledges that if necessary, she would play it for free. But McBride could be even more of a tattoo fan than a basketball fan.

After receiving her initial tattoo of “KKAJ” in an infinity sign on her shoulder, McBride became addicted to getting tattooed. She now sports six tattoos. She’s probably going to add more soon!

A’Ja Wilson

A’ja Wilson, who is just starting her fifth season as a professional, has accomplished nearly all that can be accomplished in the world of basketball. Among her many honors are being crowned MVP in 2020, being selected first overall in 2018, and being selected as an All-Star several times.

Most people are shocked to hear that Wilson, who is renowned for being a hard competitor on the court, has a soft side. The A’ja Wilson Foundation, which supports children with dyslexia, was founded by her.

Kelsey Plum

Regarding basketball player Kelsey Plum, there are many things to say. Since joining the league in 2018, the Washington product has been a revelation for the Las Vegas Aces. He also assisted Team USA in winning a gold medal in the 3×3 Team competition at the Tokyo Olympics in 2022.

Plum’s personal life is a different matter. She made the decision to keep her personal life out of the public eye, and she’s been rather good at it. So much so that a lot of people are unaware that she is married to Josh, her high school love.

Kiara Leslie

Kiara Leslie doesn’t put up a lot of points, but her strong defense allows her to remain an important player on the field. She became a star at NC State and an important member of the Washington Mystics thanks to her work on the opposite side of the ball.

Leslie attributes her success to her great work, but she also acknowledges the influence of her family and faith. She faced difficult times early in her career, including injuries to her knee and ankle, but her faith got her through them.

Jordin Canada

Some athletes chase titles their entire careers without ever coming away with one. But even though Jordin Canada only joined the league in 2018, she already has two WNBA championships under her belt. Canada may likely record more championships given that she has joined the highly fancied Los Angeles Sparks.

When she’s not playing tennis, Canada enjoys spending her days watching a lot of television to unwind. Shark Tank and The Office are two of her fave shows.

Betnijah Laney

You can tell Betnijah Laney is passionate about fashion just by taking a quick peek at her social media accounts. Whether she’s dressed in designer clothes or casual wear, Laney never fails to turn heads.

She is also quite good at playing basketball for the New York Liberty. She’s only starting started, having just received her maiden All-Star nod. Considering that she hated the game of basketball when she was little, this is even more astounding!

Satou Sabally

It’s already looking like Satou Sabally made the right choice in leaving college one year early to play in the WNBA. In 2020, not only did she secure the second overall pick in the WNBA Draft, but she also made her debut as a WNBA All-Star the following year.

Sabally’s compassion and social initiatives surpass even her basketball prowess. Since her first campaign, she has supported UNICEF and held a leadership position on the WNBA Social Justice Council.

Amanda Zahui

Even as a teenager, Amanda Zahui understood it would be difficult to make the move from her home country of Sweden to the WNBA hardwood. Nevertheless, Zahui overcame it with the correct mindset and dedication, and she went on to establish herself as a league staple and key player for the Los Angeles Sparks.

In light of this, Zahui’s passion for video games is hardly shocking. She plays video games whenever she has the chance, spending one or two sessions before it’s time to take up basketball again.

Glory Johnson

Glory Johnson was one of the league’s most dominant power forwards when she was at her best. These days, the majority of her influence comes from giving younger players leadership and advice in the locker room.

Johnson also spends time in her private life training young minds. She gave birth to two stunning twin girls in 2015, and she now spends all of her free time with them.

Katie Lou Samuelson

Katie Lou Samuelson appears to have it all on the outside. She’s a successful young lady pursuing a career in basketball and living her ambition. The forward for the Seattle Storm has, however, experienced difficult times in the past and has battled anxiety and sorrow.

Fortunately, Samuelson overcame her issues with mental health and is currently in a much better place. She shares candidly about her experience in the hopes of helping anyone facing the same difficulties.

Chelsea Gray

Chelsea Gray was viewed with a great deal of doubt when she first joined the WNBA. She was recovering from a knee injury, so she found it difficult to contribute right away. However, it turned out that they couldn’t have been more mistaken—Gray became a consistent All-Star after just two professional seasons, when she truly came of age.

She made the decision to devote her free time to activism, and she joined the Amateur Athletic Union and became a vocal component of the LGBTQ+ movement.

Napheesa Collier

Some basketball players never take a vacation from the game; it’s their way of life. Napheesa Collier, the outstanding forward for the Minnesota Lynx and the 2019 WNBA Rookie of the Year, is one of them.

Through the basketball app Through the Lens, Collier instructs, counsels, and guides aspiring basketball players when she’s not practicing or competing for the Lynx. Together with her fiancé and skills trainer Alex Bazzell, she designed this useful software.

Kia Nurse

Kia Nurse is another WNBA player who is ensuring that women’s basketball has a bright future. In her home country of Canada, the two-time WNBA champion runs a basketball academy that gives young girls the chance to reach their full potential and realize their ambitions.

A nurse is a great example for younger players to follow. During her collegiate career, she won two NCAA titles with UConn, and now she plays at the All-Star level in the WNBA.

Candace Parker

Candace Parker is among the greatest players to have ever played in the WNBA, according to many fans. She has achieved every possible victory in the sport, including two MVP honors, two WNBA championships, and two Olympic gold medals.

Parker is preparing for her future aspirations even if her basketball career may not be over yet. This includes joining her daughter Lailaa in the ownership group of Angel City, a team in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Stefanie Dolson

Regarding her career as a basketball player, Stefanie Dolson has plenty to be satisfied with. She has been named an All-Star twice, won a WNBA championship, and is a two-time NCAA champion. However, it’s evident from looking through her social media that becoming a mother is something she is even more proud of.

But a dog mom, not just any mom! Dolson devotes nearly all of her leisure time to her adorable puppy, Theodore. He’s even called her “best friend” by her.

Tayler Hill

In 2013, Tayler Hill, one of the most dominant collegiate players in recent memory, joined the WNBA. Sadly, she had a lackluster professional career after this, but Hill continued to enjoy life despite her lack of silverware.

She is renowned for being a passionate traveler, and she usually takes advantage of the off-season to visit well-liked tourist spots. She regularly shares photos from her travels on social media, so you may follow her experiences there.

Kristine Anigwe

Despite being traded twice since the Connecticut Sun selected her with the ninth overall choice in the 2019 Draft, Kristine Anigwe has unable to establish herself in the WNBA. However, given Anigwe’s abilities, finding a permanent home should only be a matter of time.

Anigwe, who plays in Turkey during the WNBA summer, focuses on her training and being as fit as she can in the interim. She describes herself as a fitness enthusiast and finds Pilates to be enjoyable.

Kalani Brown

As a child, Kalani Brown witnessed her father P. J. Brown, an NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, play fierce defence and win titles. She was motivated by this to pursue basketball as a career, and it was a wise choice. After winning an NCAA title with Baylor, she was selected with the seventh overall choice in the WNBA draft.

Brown is not just a skilled athlete but also a bit of a nerd. She loves to boast about her massive anime fandom on her well-liked TikTok account.

Bria Hartley

Bria Hartley, the guard for the Phoenix Mercury, is a multi-talented. In addition to being a skilled basketball player in the WNBA and internationally, she founded All Hart Clothing.

With her clothing company, Hartley manages the business end, contributes to new item design, and acts as a model. She is not just a businesswoman but also a mother! Nothing is impossible for this all-around WNBA player.

Natalie Achonwa

Natalie Achonwa plays in the WNBA and in Italy during the offseason, but when she’s not pouring on the points, she’s working to elevate the status of women in sports. She works to ensure that her fellow WNBA players have better living and playing conditions as a member of the Women’s National Basketball Players Association.

She also takes part in activities and initiatives that support female athletes in different ways. Achonwa routinely uses her public platform to offer support for those in need and is active about various social concerns.

Aerial Powers

Aerial Powers is well-known to basketball fans as a gifted shooting guard who excelled at Michigan throughout his undergraduate career and was important in leading the Washington Mystics to the WNBA championship in 2019. But perhaps people in general are more familiar with Powers’ games.

Powers is a dedicated player of video games who has competed in heroic tournaments and streams. She presently represents Team Liquid in esports as an ambassador and streamer.

Monique Billings

Monique Billings is dedicated to following the same diet and exercise regimen as other elite athletes. She was able to establish herself as a key player with the Atlanta Dream in recent years in part because of this. Billings is aware of when to abandon a healthy lifestyle, though.

She has a strong interest for cooking and enjoys trying out different recipes when traveling. Her current favorite is a peach cobbler shake with a doughnut burger served with fries.

Alanna Smith

You can rely on Alanna Smith, the power forward for the Phoenix Mercury, to perform well on the court when needed. But when the game clock reaches zero, Smith thinks differently.

Smith prefers focusing on enjoying life to the fullest and relaxing whenever she can off the court. Her favorite spot to do this is on the beach, where she can enjoy the sun and get a tan. Considering that she was born on the Australian island of Tasmania, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Kaila Charles

Kaila Charles joined the WNBA in 2020, therefore she is still relatively fresh to the sport. However, she has already displayed glimpses of her immense potential and indicated that, like her mother, Olympian swimmer Ruperta Charles, she will succeed as an athlete.

Charles is pursuing a career on YouTube in addition to trying to break into the WNBA. She produces vlog-style films where she talks about her life as a WNBA player.

Tiffany Mitchell

Tiffany Mitchell was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2016, and she remained loyal to them in the WNBA. Mitchell played for five different teams abroad, thus her career there took a very varied course. Nevertheless, she was successful and had an instant influence everywhere she went.

Mitchell is attempting to have an influence off the field as well. She was raised by a single mother, so it is significant to her that she is an advocate for single-parent households and a member of the Athlete to Advocate program.

Dearica Hamby

Dearica Hamby is gradually emerging as a key player in the WNBA despite having a sluggish start to her professional career. Before making her All-Star debut in 2021, she won the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year title two years in a row while playing for the Las Vegas Aces.

Hamby attributes her success to perseverance and her family’s unwavering devotion to basketball. Her sister-in-law Olivia Nelson-Ododa is a standout student at UConn, and her husband Alonzo Nelson-Ododa played in the NBA G League and abroad.

Te’a Cooper

Te’a Cooper appeared out of nowhere to a lot of people. She was a second-round selection once, and then a starter and important member of the Los Angeles Sparks at another time. This merely serves to highlight the potential of persistence and self-assurance.

Cooper saw many ups and downs in his personal life as well. Her marriage to NBA veteran Dwight Howard ended in divorce in April 2021 after only a few months of marriage. She is presently dating Alvin Kamara, an NFL player.
